PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Chapel Studios development, located at 169 Chapel Road, Flat Bush, is a distinctive development that provides much needed affordable housing for the Auckland housing market. This quality, fully-furnished residential development in a strategic area of Auckland is close to community infrastructure including bus stops, the Flat Bush and Botany Town Centres, and Barry Curtis Park.

Consisting of five stand-alone apartment style blocks with a shared two-way central driveway and 30 on-site parking spaces, each apartment block has three levels with one five-bedroom unit on each level. Each of the 15 independent household units contain communal kitchen, living room and laundry room areas, while each bedroom has its own ensuite and tea making facilities.

THE CONTEXT AND CHALLENGE

Together with other specialist inputs, Haines Planning’s involvement in the development comprised of project formulation and environmental reporting under the newly operative Auckland Unitary Plan to assist the resource consenting process and the development’s successful outcome (refer Austen Clarke, Director, Clarke Group Ltd testimonial).

THE RESULT

Endorsement of this distinctive residential development model has been received from central government, with Housing New Zealand purchasing four similar developments in Auckland in 2017. The Chapel Studios Ltd development therefore offers an important “social housing” function by providing comfortable, affordable living environments that clearly have a place within the spectrum of accommodation types, particularly in high growth centres.
