PROJECT OVERVIEW

Haines Planning assisted Waste Management New Zealand Limited in securing the necessary planning authorisations for the establishment of its regional head office and truck yard in Springs Road, East Tamaki.

THE CONTEXT AND CHALLENGE

The 5.2ha site had been occupied by Lion as its wine bottling, warehousing and distribution facility. In anticipation of Lion’s relocation from the site in 2017, Haines Planning has assisted the landowner, Stride Property, with the identification of redevelopment opportunities under the Unitary Plan. This had led to the development of a masterplan which identified a number of different scenarios.

Haines Planning then assisted Stride and the prospective tenant, Waste Management, in the development of their plans for a Green Star accredited regional head office and yard facilities.

THE RESULT

All necessary resource consents were secured on time and within budget allowing this substantial development to proceed in a timely manner. This world class development is now the base for 400 of Waste Management’s staff, allowing the Company to consolidate its operations from across Auckland in this purpose-built, strategically located facility. The project was the winner of the Green Building Award, the Industrial Property Award and the Supreme Award at the PCNZ Property Industry Awards 2020, which is a testament to the client and the project team’s commitment to excellence in every aspect of the development.
